Join us for Coastal Safari  a 3 day 2 night journey into the Newfoundland South Coast wilderness in an area only accessible by boat. Based at the well equipped Coastal Safari tent camp you can set your own agenda:  hiking, sea kayaking (kayaks are available to our guests at no extra cost) or sitting on the beach enjoying the wilderness. We provide comfortable tents on wooden platforms with beds, sleeping bags, linen, towels, great food and hot showers. To ensure a natural  wilderness environment where animals are not disturbed we do not operate a generator. 12 volt lights in each tent are powered by a battery which is recharged on our boat. We use propane for cooking and hot water.

Coastal Safari leaves from Harbour Mille   every Monday, Wednesday and Friday throughout the summer. On the journey across Fortune Bay you can expect to see puffins, gannets, shearwaters, murres, bald eagles, ospreys, as well as whales, porpoises and dolphins. The dolphins are especially interesting because they are interested in us and usually come over to check us out. Later in the summer expect to see migrants from tropical waters such as bluefin tuna and giant sunfish.

Caribou from the 20,000 strong Middle Ridge herd are a common sight around the Coastal Safari camp. At dawn and in the evening they walk along the beach in front of our camp and feed in the meadow next to the tents. During the day they can be found a short hike from camp.

The area around the Coastal Safari camp is home to one of the densest concentration of Bald Eagles in Eastern North America. They are your constant companions throughout the day perched in tall trees along the shoreline and soaring high above. There are three breeding pairs nearby and you can expect to wake up to the sound of young eagles crying for breakfast.

Our menu features seafood and vegetarian dishes. We serve plenty of fresh fruit, stir fry vegetables with chicken, salads, whole wheat bread and of course a wide variety of fresh fish and shellfish that we enjoy gathering with our guests. For dessert enjoy cheesecake topped with fresh berries.

Here Dr. Rafael Herrera from Yucatan, Mexico enjoys Hor d'Oeuvres of freshly caught scallops and mussels.

The Coastal Safari camp is located at the entrance to Long Harbour fjord,  12 miles of sheltered waters that provide great  kayaking for beginners through to experts.

Many of our guests have found that a trip to the French islands of  St. Pierre and Miquelon is a perfect sequel to Coastal Safari. The ferry is only 90 minutes away from Harbour Mille.

" A trip with Coastal Safari is like going to a National Park, but without all the people."
